METRO YOUTH SPORTS, Inc.
For over 40 years, Metro Youth Sports has been providing Fort Wayne's youth the opportunity to participate in organized athletic activities. Our organization was developed in 1971 in response to a need within our inner-city community. While there was a youth sports league in Fort Wayne at the time, this league was not interested in embracing the disadvantaged youth residing in central Fort Wayne. Consequently, Metro Youth Sports was developed to fill this need and has continued to be a presence in central Fort Wayne since this time.
Metro Youth Sports Program includes a football and basketball league, cheerleading squads and a dance team. We have over 1,115 students participating each year. Participants practice everyday up until school starts. Once school starts, the children do not practice on mondays. All games are played on the weekends.
Our coaches are volunteers and they undergo comprehensive training in order to participate in our programs. Our organization has collaborated in mentoring programs with Fort Wayne Community Schools in which players and cheerleaders who were academically challenged were paired with a mentor. Over 200 volunteers support our programs.
At Metro Youth Sports we strive to put the appropriate focus on sports and encourage youth to be successful in all aspects of their lives. We do so by:
